Dayz After is a brand platform that is geared towards affecting changing in peoples lives that have lost their children as a result of cps involvement.   our goal is to encourage, uplift, empower and get you to live again. our stories are real, they are relatable and they are present.   we share a common bond, a common struggle, a common motivation. in that we have had cps in our lives. We all hold the power to determine how much involvement that the state has in our families.  The question is have you given up all of your power or are you struggling between what percentage remains with you.  Too many times we give up all of our power when we need to keep it all.  Know what your power struggles are, will help you to avoid them at all cost.  No matter what situation you find yourself, you have the power to change your circumstances.  Are you going to wallow in self pity and allow a system that is not totally geared towards building famil...

Grief, Loss, Suicide Prevention

Well today I had to deal with loss of a close family friend by suicide. It is never easy dealing with loss and it is ten times harder I believe when it’s unexpected and it’s by suicide. Telling a family member that we have suffered this loss is never easy. I had to tell my granny today that one of her close friends growing up just committed suicide. she was in shocked and couldn’t believe that I was telling her that. For those of you who have ever dealt with this, How did you cope? I know that all grief is hard. For those contemplating suicide, find someone that you can talk to, someone that you can confide in and let it out. there has to be another answer. Whats makes us make those decisions? stress is something we are now realizing is one of the biggest killers in our society. Reach out to family and friends. Check up of your family and friends. Once that time has come and gone there is nothing you can do to change the course. Most of us tonight are asking ourselves why and wh...

DISPARITIES WITHIN THE FOSTER SYSTEM AMONG PEOPLE OF COLOR

Image
In NY, black families more likely to be split by foster care system http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2015/6/25/new-york-foster-care-system-racial-disparity.html  Many of us know too well, that the black population is very much present in the foster care system, and even though the state provides incentives such as subsidy it is much more difficult to get a child of color adopted than the other race. Most times, a teacher will see a child without proper clothes and or shoes and automatically label that child as being neglected and makes a call that changes this child's life most times for the worst, rather than see the need, provide the service to satisfy that need.  A child may be in situation where mom works over time to support, but may need a little help. sometimes for fear of being labeled she does not seek government assistance, but a friend that cares may be just what she needs to understand that you can ask for help and not be labeled.  When I was...

Teach one Reach one

Image
On this journey I didn't quite understand how to go about reach you, as we had never met before, what I did know what that I wanted to bring you a message.  I thought that I had to reach everyone, but I am slowly learning that If I can make a difference in the life of one individual then I would have done my job.  I never knew God as my personal savior until the age of 30.  Some may say that is old, but I say as long as you find him it matters not the age.  My hope that is that you find comfort in knowing that God loves you and that you are special to him. We are facing so much crime in our communities. We can't even go to the movies any more, or the gas stations without someone threatening our lives.  I say you can't save everyone, just do the best you can in the present corner at which you are standing now. #dayzafter

The Abuse: How I survived it all

Image
This is the process of me telling my story. I have been through numerous traumatic events in my little lifetime.  Most people judge me without even knowing who I truly am. At the tender age of 7 or 8 I think I was beaten so badly with a water hose that  the very presence of water on my skin was excruciating. Sometime we get involved with men and not understand that every man you bring into your life you are also bringing into your children's life.  I don't think that my mum knew what was going on and if she did I am not sure if she knew how to stop it.  We seldom think that these men would hurt our children but some of them end up doing so.  I was determined that I would not be a victim to this situation so I started counted the days when I would turn eighteen so I could leave.  God I didn't have to endure that mess much longer and he removed that man from our lives.  We never understand why going through the storm what the reasons are for the pain ...
http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/07/paternity-registry/396044/?utm_source=SFFB We really need to know our rights as parents.  Whether it be mother or father.  The system makes you feel like you don't have a choice that they have all the rights to do what they do,  but that is not the case.  Know the laws.  Education is a power tool, no one can take that away from you. #dayzafter

family reunification and grieving

Image
I have started reading this book and I must say I highly recommend you my viewers to read it. Understanding human behavior and personality (william, 1991) is very important in creating a  solid theoretical basis for providing  help to women who are going through the loss of their children through the system.  Simply  using the normal way of doing things is not providing that mother with goals that are realistic to her situation.  I have seen first hand how the system works and what is offered to parents in the name of family reunification.  Some of us parents don't stand a chance based on the goals  set out for us by the system. It is set up most time in an attempt to set us to fail rather than win.  If you know my issues are lack of support system, no job, or even a job that does not meet all my needs, then what sense does it make to send me to anger management  classes  when my issues have nothing to do with anger management. What...
